Mexico eliminated from Copa America after Ecuador defeat

West Ham's Enner Valencia scores the second goal in Ecuador's 2-1 win over Mexico, who are eliminated from the Copa America.

A penalty in the 64th minute gave Mexico faint hope, but Valencia's goal proved decisive in the final Group A match. Miller Bolanos opened the scoring in the first half following a fortunate deflection from Valencia's initial attempt.

Ecuador could advance to the quarter-finals as one of the two best third-place teams. Mexico fielded an under-strength side, resting most of their stars for July's Gold Cup in the USA.
