England can still win World Cup by 2022 - Gareth Southgate

Gareth Southgate tells BBC Sport that England can still meet FA chairman Greg Dyke's target of winning the World Cup by 2022, despite his Under-21 side's disappointing group-stage exit from the European Championship in the Czech Republic.

A point from England's final group game would have taken England to the semi-finals, but a 3-1 defeat by Italy meant England finished bottom of the group.

Despite their exit, Southgate still believes he is the right man to continue in charge, citing a "huge development" in the squad, and insists Premier League clubs have been supportive in releasing key personnel despite eligible players such as Raheem Sterling, Ross Barkley and Luke Shaw not making the trip.
