Aston Villa's main summer signing Micah Richards says that Friday nights, when he regularly found that he had not been picked by Manchester City, were "difficult to take".
He told BBC WM 95.6: "I did get offered a new five-year deal by City but it wasn't about the money. I just didn't play enough.
"There's a time that comes in everyone's career when you just need to play more games. On a Friday night and you're not even travelling with the squad, as he's only taking 18, was difficult to take. Villa is somewhere I can play week in, week out. That's the best for my career right now."
Since being part of City's title-winning team in 2012, Richards - who spent the 2014-15 season on loan at Serie A side Fiorentina - has made nine Premier League starts.
