Ryan Shawcross: 'I don't think Shaqiri knows who I am'

Stoke City skipper Ryan Shawcross looks forward to his imminent return from injury so that he can finally line up alongside all the club's summer signings.

Shawcross was limited to just over an hour's action during Stoke's pre-season programme before having to undergo back surgery which caused him to miss the first two months of the season.

Since then, Stoke manager Mark Hughes has added Inter Milan's Swiss winger Xherdan Shaqiri for £12m to his other purchases of Shay Given, Glen Johnson, Joselu, Philipp Wollscheid, Jakob Haugaard, Marco van Ginkel and Barceolona pair Moha El Ouriachi and Ibrahim Afellay.

"I don't think Shaqiri knows who I am," Shawcross told BBC Radio Stoke.. "It'll be nice to show him I can play football. We've brought in some brilliant players and I'm just looking to get back involved."

Stoke City skipper Ryan Shawcross was talking to BBC Radio Stoke's Matt Sandoz.
