Premier League would treat gay players with respect - Scudamore

Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore has told BBC Newsnight he is "absolutely sure" there are gay players in the top flight of English football and that the "time would be right" for them to come out publicly.

In an interview with BBC Newsnight's Evan Davis, Scudamore said it would be "very strange" if there were not homosexual footballers in the Premier League and that they would "absolutely" be treated with respect.

"I think it would be welcomed," said Scudamore. "The time would be right for them to come out."

There are no openly gay players in the Premier League.
