Martin O'Neill says relationship with Roy Keane 'never awkward'

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill tells BBC Radio Five Live that the presence of his assistant Roy Keane has been of huge benefit to his squad.

"He is an iconic figure. A world-class player even though Sir Alex Ferguson might disagree," said O'Neill.

"Some of the older players played against him. The likes of Robbie Keane and Glenn Whelan and John O'Shea played with him (at Manchester United).

"You could tell that he had a good influence in the dressing-room. He was never awkward even though he told it straight. He has been terrific for us as well."
