Derby County chairman Mel Morris tells BBC East Midlands Today that Darren Wassall is the safe pair of hands needed to stabilise the club following Paul Clement's sacking as head coach.
Clement left on Monday, just eight months after being appointed.
Former Rams defender Wassall, 47, has stepped up from his position as academy director to head coach until the end of the season.
"We need someone who understands the culture and philosophy," Morris told BBC East Midlands Today. "Right now he is a really good, safe pair of hands to stabilise the ship and get us back on track."
