O'Neill says Republic have to 'prove themselves'

Republic of Ireland manager Martin O'Neill says his side have to "prove themselves in every single game" as they prepare to face Wales in their World Cup Group D qualifying game in Dublin on Friday.

The Republic top their group on 10 points, having won three and drawn one of their opening four fixtures.

"We have some points on the board which is nice, but previous results count for nothing at all coming into this match," said O'Neill.

The Republic boss had positive news to report about Everton midfielder James McCarthy, who trained on Wednesday and Thursday after recovering from a hamstring injury.
