Reading captain Paul McShane has revealed the club was not a happy place to be towards the end of last season.
"When we went out of the FA Cup (to Crystal Palace), people just weren't interested, players just seemed to down tools," he told BBC Radio Berkshire.
Centre-back McShane, 31, said the mentality has all changed this season under manager Jaap Stam.
"The gaffer has a philosophy and he is sticking to it, and everyone is on the same wavelength.
"The mentality is much better this year, and the people the manager has brought in as well, they've really added to it."
