Australian Grand Prix: Fernando Alonso pleased with fifth place

Ferrari's Fernando Alonso admits his fifth place in Sunday's Australian Grand Prix is "better than we expected" after a difficult weekend for the team.

The Spaniard had spun out of second qualifying on Saturday to end up 12th on the grid, with his team-mate Felipe Massa starting in 16th.

But Alonso moved up the field quickly and held off a late charge by Williams's Pastor Maldonado.

BBC F1 pundit David Coulthard also gives his verdict on the double world champion's race, saying the fifth place will be "a huge relief" for the Italian outfit.
