British newcomer Max Chilton got his Formula 1 career off to a dramatic start when he suffered a heavy crash during the first test in Jerez after a suspension component on his new Marussia failed, sending him into the barriers.
The new car had been unveiled only hours earlier. Chilton was not injured in the incident, which happened at the end of the circuit's back straight.
Admitting that the crash was "not a dream start" to his first season in Formula 1, the Englishman remained confident that his team will be able to fix the damage and hopes to be back in action on the second day of testing.
