Brian McIver hits out at referee as he quits after Derry defeat

Derry manager Brian McIver strongly criticises the performance of referee Conor Lane as he resigns after his team's qualifier defeat by Galway.

McIver described the Cork whistler's performance as "scandalous" after Derry's 1-11 to 0-8 defeat at Salthill.

"I've stepped down. Totally retired," McIver told BBC Sport Northern Ireland.

"I couldn't live with that kind of a performance ever again from a referee on a football field. You are banging your head against a brick wall."
