Graeme McDowell hails 'amazing' Portrush plans for Open

Former US Open winner Graeme McDowell welcomes planning permission for renovations which could see Royal Portrush staging the Open Championship as early as 2019.

The Portrush native said he was excited by the plans, which include the building of two new holes to make way for corporate hospitality marquees and spectator villages.

The R&A confirmed the County Antrim links as an Open venue last year but the possibility of holding the major in 2019 was subject to infrastructure work being completed and approved.
