Irish Open: Rickie Fowler happy with 'good solid start'

American Rickie Fowler says he is happy with his 'solid start' to the Irish Open after carding an opening round of level-par 71 at Royal County Down.

The world number nine, who recently won the Players Championship on the PGA Tour, added that he managed to "keep it together on a tough day".

England's Danny Willett was the early clubhouse leader with a two-under-par 70, which he posted in conditions which he described as "perfect for links golf".

Luke Donald took "a lot of positives" from his first round, adding that he had "some fun out there" despite the very windy, and sometimes wet, conditions.
