Irish Open: Rory McIlroy endures nightmare start

Rory McIlroy admits he has a lot of catching up to do if he is to make the cut at the Irish Open.

The world number one from Northern Ireland carded nine bogeys and no birdies in an opening 80 which leaves him in need of a brilliant second round on Friday to avoid a third straight missed cut in the event.

"It was not quite as difficult as I made it look," admitted the 26-year-old four-time major winner.
