High hopes for Irish amateur golfers

Ireland has produced many top professional golfers, but can currently boast two of the best players in the amateur game.

Twenty-year-old Leona Maguire from Cavan was recently named the College Golfer of the Year in the United States of America and is ranked number one in the world amateur rankings.

Cormac Sharvin, from Ardglass, is another who is showing great promise. The 22-year-old winner of the Brabazon Trophy in June is hoping to win a place on the Great Britain and Ireland Walker Cup team.
