Darren Clarke did not envisage Open Championship at Portrush
Darren Clarke tells BBC Sport that he did not envisage the Open Championship ever being played at Royal Portrush but congratulates "a lot of people who worked tirelessly behind the scenes" to help make it happen.
The tournament organisers, the Royal & Ancient, announced on Tuesday that the famous Northern Ireland seaside links will stage the tournament in 2019.
"Hosting the biggest and best golf tournament in the world will provide a real showcase for Northern Ireland and all the Irish players are going to have a ball when it comes back here. The excitement is going to build from here on in."
