Lisa Kearney's Olympic hopes may be over following injury

A serious knee injury is likely to rule out Belfast judo player Lisa Kearney for around a year and her hopes of competing at the Rio Olympics now look to be over.

Belfast woman Kearney, 25, is currently in the middle of the qualifying process for the Rio Games which is scheduled to go on for another year.

"She will take no further part in the Olympic qualifying process," said Kearney's coach Ciaran Ward.

Kearney clinched a bronze medal at last year's Commonwealth Games in Glasgow and has produced impressive form on the international circuit in recent months.
