Peter Canavan says his Cavan Gaels team gave themselves too much to do in the second half as their comeback fell just short in the Ulster Club Football tie against Slaughtneil.
The Derry champions led 0-9 to 0-4 after dominating the first half but had to battle in the second half to earn a 0-11 to 0-9 win at Owenbeg.
"I'm devastated for they players that they didn't produce the kind of battling performance and carefree approach in the first half," said Canavan.
"Our intention was to go at Slaughtneil and to take the game to them in the first half but that never materialised.
"We had to throw caution to the wind in the second half to be fair to our lads, they went out with all guns blazing."
