Olympic chairman disappointed by drugs ruling

International Olympic Committee co-ordination commission chairman Denis Oswald says LaShawn Merritt's successful Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) appeal against an IOC doping law will not tarnish the London Olympics.

The IOC's rule had barred any athlete who has received a doping suspension of more than six months from competing in the next Games, but the recent ruling could set a precedent for appeals against the British Olympic Association and other national Olympic bodies that impose their own stricter bans.

Oswald adds that he would back the BOA if any appeals were launched against the British body, and that the Cas decision does not set a precedent.
