Teams face up to Super 8s challenge

With the Super League and Championship regular seasons done and dusted, the Rugby Football League's new Super 8s format is upon us.

Twenty-four teams now split into three groups; Super League, Qualifiers and Championship Shield.

The top eight from Super League battle for a top-four play-off place, and the chance to walk out at Old Trafford on 10 October and contest the Grand Final.

Meanwhile, Super League's bottom four and the top four of the Championship combine in the Qualifiers, with the goal of earning places in the top flight next season.

The points accrued so far are wiped out here, setting up a seven-game shoot-out for the top three, and a so-called 'Million Pound Game' between fourth versus fifth for the final Super League place.

Silverware is also up for grabs in the Championship Shield, while the battle to avoid the drop continues at the opposite end of the table.

Follow the Super League and Qualifiers on the BBC Sport website and see tries across the top two Super 8s groups on the Super League Show.
