Rovers ran out 10-5 winners under the old Twin Towers, marshalled by player-coach Roger Millward - who suffered a broken jaw in the process.
It was the first and only time the Robins bobbed to victory in the competition, while it was another missed opportunity for Hull to end their Wembley jinx - one which continues to this day.
