Super League Show: Big Mal Meninga's parting gift to St Helens in 1985 Premiership final

Already a star for the Queensland state and with the Kangaroos in his native Australia, Mal Meninga came to St Helens at a time when the world's best played in the British rugby league competition.

With Brett Kenny at Wigan, Peter Sterling at Hull and Wally Lewis at Wakefield, Saints were able to showcase their own Aussie superstar when Meninga arrived.

The £30,000 outlay paid off, as the international centre helped Saints to a Premiership final triumph against league winners Hull KR at Elland Road before heading back to the southern hemisphere.
