England women overpower France in autumn series opener

England women kick off their autumn international series with a hard-fought 23-13 win against a strong France side.

Debutant Amber Reed kicked two penalties and a conversion to add to tries from Ruth Laybourn, Joanne Watmore and Fiona Davidson to help England to come from behind.

After the game, captain Sarah Hunter said France were "very tough" but England put in a "good team performance" to overcome them.

England next face world champions New Zealand in a three-match series which starts on 23 November.
