Six Nations 2014: Schmidt's relief after Ireland's win over Scotland

Ireland coach Joe Schmidt says the result was the key thing in Sunday's Six Nations opener against Scotland as his side laboured at times before earning a 28-6 victory.

"It wasn't about how we did it. We just needed to get more points than them," added the New Zealander, who was taking charge of Ireland for the first time in a Six Nations game.

Schmidt was happy with Ireland's defending but said their ball retention would need to improve significantly in next weekend's game against champions Wales.
