Former SPL chief executive: Dundee clubs almost merged
The two professional football clubs in Dundee were almost brought together in 1999 to form a new club, according to the former chief executive of the Scottish Premier League.
Roger Mitchell revealed this would essentially have been a Dundee United FC takeover of Dundee FC, and the new club would have been called Dundee United City Football Club.
Although the deal eventually unravelled, Mitchell said the new club would have played in Tangerine at Tannadice.
Mitchell was speaking in October ahead of a forthcoming series about the history of Scottish football.
