Roger Federer begins his bid for a seventh ATP World Tour Finals title with a comfortable 6-3 6-1 win over Serbia's Janko Tipsarevic.

The Swiss maestro cruised to victory against an out-of-sorts world number nine in just 68 minutes to record a record 40th victory in the season-ending tournament, surpassing Ivan Lendl's 39 victories.
