Jersey retain Gilson Cup for the seventh year with tie

Jersey retained the Gilson Cup after the inter-insular match against Guernsey finished 15-all at the La Pouquelaye Halls on Saturday.

Guernsey's Sarah Garbutt won the individual trophy as the most successful player.

It was the seventh successive time Jersey have won the trophy.

John Stuart, president of Guernsey badminton, said: "[It was] a great and nail-biting match with a noisy crowd yelling on support all day."

The 30th and last match on court saw Guernsey's team captain Kevin Le Moigne and Commonwealth Games star Gayle Lloyd facing Jersey's Chris Cotillard and Kim Ashton.

A Sarnia win would have sealed the victory but the Jersey players fought hard to win the deciding game 21-16 and earn the draw.
