Newcastle Eagles sign Mersey Tigers forward Thomson

England international Thomson was named BBL British Player of the Year for 2010-11

Newcastle Eagles have signed power forward Andrew Thomson from Mersey Tigers for the 2011-12 British Basketball League season.

The 27-year-old England international was named the BBL's British Player of the Year for 2010-11, and had been with the Tigers for the last three seasons.

Newcastle coach Fab Flournoy said: "I'm delighted to welcome him to the Eagles.

"He is a skilled big man whose inside game has really developed. Andy was a real thorn in our side last season."

Flournoy added: "I see him as a potential focal point of our team and a player who I hope will improve even further during his time with us.

"Andy undoubtedly has the ability to feature in the Great Britain program for years to come".
