Newcastle Eagles net Derby forward Joel Madourie

Newcastle Eagles have signed Derby Trailblazers forward Joel Madourie to their roster for the 2011-12 British Basketball League season.

The 25-year-old, was Derby's player of the year last season, and follows Paul Gause and Andrew Thompson into the Eagles squad.

"It's a privilege to be given the chance to move there," said Madourie.

"Just being at Newcastle will give me the chance to learn from some of the best coaches in the country."

Madourie added: "I just want to keep learning and improving so I can become a better player.

"There's no doubt I'll really miss playing for Derby.

"I've been here for two years and made a lot of friends, both on and off the court."
