Leicester Riders forward LaTaryl Williams has said he will not be fit to play for the side this season.
The 33-year-old has been sidelined with a serious knee injury since 27 March 2011.
Williams underwent reconstructive surgery on his knee in December.
"I'll be starting some light running in two or three months time and back to competitive sports in 8 months," he told BBC Radio Leicester.
"I'm not in a rush right now.
"It's not like the guys need me anyway, they're playing great right now - third in the league and have the opportunity to win it this year."
The former captain was appointed as an assistant coach in August to work under coach Rob Paternostro.
