LaTaryl Williams is leaving Leicester Riders after four seasons to take up a coaching role in America.
Williams has been an ever-present on the Riders roster since Rob Paternostro took over as coach in 2008.
But a serious knee injury sidelined him last season, forcing him into a coaching role and the 34-year-old said the time was right to quit playing.
"I have had to face facts, and with a wife and young daughter, I realised that was it for playing," he said.
"I really did not want to finish the way I did, with an injury, but sometimes these things happen. I have realised it is time to move on."
Williams is returning to his homeland to become an assistant coach for the women's programme at Holmes Community College in Mississippi.
