BBL Trophy: Plymouth and Newcastle into semi-finals

Plymouth Raiders will face Newcastle Eagles in the BBL Trophy semi-finals after beating Surrey United and Glasgow Rocks respectively on Saturday.

Andre Jones scored 20 points for Newcastle in their 88-70 win, their 12th in succession against the Rocks.

Great Britain internationals Gareth Murray and Ben Mockford combined for 34 points as Raiders beat United 86-77.

"In the Trophy we can show that we are capable of playing with the top teams," said Raiders guard Josh Wilcher.

"We are happy that we executed down the stretch to hold on because they really threw some hard shots at us late on."

Raiders and Eagles join Leicester Riders and one of Sheffield Sharks and London Lions in the final four.

League leaders Newcastle had also been in league action against third-placed Leicester Riders on Friday, cruising to a 104-81 win as they pursue a second consecutive Championship title.

Trophy semi-finalists Leicester bounced back by beating Sheffield on Saturday and the Sharks also suffered defeat in overtime by London on Sunday in a preview of Friday's Trophy quarter-final.

Second-placed Worcester Wolves could not keep up the pressure at the top, thrashing Bristol Flyers by 26 points on Friday, but slumping to a 89-75 loss against Cheshire Phoenix on Sunday.

Second-from-bottom Leeds Force had beaten the Lions in overtime on Friday, but they followed up with a loss to Manchester Giants on Sunday, who ended a five-game losing streak in a close win against Bristol the day before.

In the WBBL Championship, Helen Naylor scored 24 points as Sheffield Hatters edged Leicester Riders 70-66 to keep up the pressure on leaders Nottingham Wildcats.
