US colleges basketball stars to play in tournament at Belfast's SSE Arena

College basketball has a big mainstream following in the United States

Belfast's SSE Arena will host a basketball tournament next year which will see four top NCAA college teams from the USA battling it out.

New York's Manhattan College and Boston outfit Holy Cross are two of the teams that will be in action in the tournament next November.

The games in Belfast will count towards the NCAA's league standings.

The tournament has been officially sanctioned by NCAA basketball's hall of fame based in Kansas City.

Organisers plan to extend the competition to an eight-team tournament from 2018 onwards.

College basketball is hugely popular with sports fans in the US with many players going on to star for NBA teams.
