Irish bantamweight John Joe Nevin had to settle for a bronze medal at the World Amateur Championships after he was edged out by Britain's Luke Campbell in Friday's semi-finals.

The judges scored the bout 12-12 after the three rounds but the Hull fighter got the verdict on countback in Baku.

Campbell led 4-3 after round one and the scores were level 9-9 after the second session.

Mullingar man Nevin also won bronze at the previous World Championships.

He is the first Irish boxer to win two medals at World Championships.

Nevin's performance also earned him automatic qualification for next year's London Olympics.

The Mullingar man fights for the Cavan Boxing Club.
