Carl Frampton's next bout will take place on St Patrick's Day but in Sheffield and not New York.

The Commonwealth super-bantamweight champion had been linked with an appearance at Madison Square Garden.

That would have been on the undercard of Matthew Macklin's world title fight with WBC middleweight champion Sergio Martinez on 17 March.

However, instead Frampton will be chief support to the Sheffield contest between Kell Brook and Matthew Hatton.

Unbeaten Frampton successfully defended his Commonwealth super-bantamweight title against Scotland's Kris Hughes at Bethnall Green in London last weekend in his 12th straight victory.

"It's a wonderful bill for Carl to be fighting on," said Frampton's manager Barry McGuigan.

"The arena will be full of proper discerning boxing fans who will be eager to see Carl in the flesh.

"We are anxious to keep him busy this year to solidify his position as the most exciting super-bantamweight in Britain and he is chomping at the bit to be involved in this massive night for British boxing."
