The Belfast bantamweight eased to a unanimous 30-27, 30-27, 29-28 win in Kazakhstan to set up a contest with Brian Gonzalez of Mexico.
Belfast fighters Paddy Barnes and Tommy McCarthy have also made the last 16 with Sean McComb in the last 32.
Donegal's Jason Quigley also progressed in the middleweight category.
The European champion defeated India's Vijender Singh 30-26,30-26 and 28-28 in Almaty.
Lightweight McComb will aim to make it a quartet of Belfast men in the last 16 when he takes on Gildas Bangana of the Central African Republic on Sunday.
Tipperary super-heavyweight Con Sheehan was beaten on a unanimous decision by Cuban Yohanndi Ortega on Saturday.
