@NimrodTwo entirely comparable achievements, was it your own shoe?? @leemaWhen did he duck them??Only DeGale is even in the same weight category>?
Good (not great) boxer. Enjoyed watching his scraps. Has done much more than I thought he would. HOWEVER, I can't stand to hear him talk. So you've knocked out George Groves in front of 80k fans. I once threw a shoe over a house and I don't keep harpin on about that. Move on lad..
'Great' fighters become the best across the weights. Froch wasn't even the best in his weight category.
My last word on Froch the fighter is he was a good fighter with a big heart who acheived a lot more than many fighers with more natural ability. On another note, Froch's sky analysis has been shocking so far. He needs to understand that if he is analysing other fighters, we don't need to hear about him knocking out George Groves in front of 80,000 people.
Carl Froch, ducked no one.... except Adonis Stevenson, James Degale, Bernard Hopkins, Gennady Golovkin, Sergey Kovalev.......
It was a perfect send off!
It's a shame he didn't get his chance to fight Ward in the U.S. I have vivid memories of him battling back in the last round in their first fight, I don't think people recognise the heart and resilience that went into that round. Really think next time round he would've had a chance.Either way, a great champion for British boxing. Well done Carl and all the best!
Very pleased he did not risk his reputation at the age of 38 against Golovkin who is knocking everyone's head off and would've tested even his granite chin.Have a great retirement knowing you are one of Britains' finest, sensible to go now. His pithy punditry on Sky will keep us entertained in future.
KennycatDo some research, over half of JC's fights took place outside Wales.
A very apt title. One of Britain's very best, fought everyone, duct no one. Thanks Carl Froch
Surely you can't compare the two is right.Joe had more World Champions on his CV than Carl, retired no:1 in 2 divisions, held the Ring Mag belt in SMW & LHW.They're only common World Level opponent, Joe beat a prime Kessler whilst Froch lost to a more shopworn version.Joe also has an all time great in Hopkins at LHW, who went on to beat Froch best win Pascal some 4 years later..
Surely you can not compare the two. Home town fighter slapper Joe wasn't in the same league as Carl. Anyone remember Robin Reid fighting JC???
Interested to know who people think Froch best win is? If its Kessler lets face it he was shot by the time Froch managed to beat him.If it was Bute, he's well and truly been found out now. So if its neither of them two who is it? Pascal? He was dominated twice by a 50 year old Hopkins. JC's wins against a hungry unbeaten WC Kessler, and the best LHW at the time (Hopkins) trump any of Frochs wins
#153 The truth is that SMW was, during JC reign, a fairly poor division dominated by Europeans. Big name US fighters avoided it completely. Last few years it has been a lot better.Ultimately champions can only beat what is in front of them. The only viable SMW that JC did not fight during his reign was Ottke who was not leaving Germany where either the judges or ref favoured him
Listened to the arguments but like many people Joe Calzaghe does not do it for me. Mostly held only the lightly regarded WBO title, fought too many fighters undeserving of a title shot, definetly I believe slapped at times, lacked punching power, should have gone to America sooner in his search for "greatness". Mainly lightly regarded in USA who cannot believe some here regard him as a great.
Likewise people like to say Froch got lucky against Talyor. Fact is a championship fight is 12rds and Froch lasted better than Taylor did. Regardless of wether you think Talyor should have been at MW, fact is he was at SMW and couldn't quite see the job out.
People talk about Hopkins being 40+, he was the best LHW in the world. Some of his best performances were after that fight. Fight should have happened sooner but it was BH who agreed to the fight then pulled out. People talk about Eubanks being past his best, but he was still good enough to take Collins to a SD before the JC fight. Then he went to Cruiserwieght where he clearly didn't belong.
