@204 Good point; imagining he wins the rematch, Hearn won't be in a hurry to put him against DW or TF. One would box him silly, the other would knock him silly. A couple of last stops on the gravy train against second tier opposition, surprise retirement, then I'm a celebrity. Actually, don't be surprised if it's Ruiz, then a journeyman then Uysk. Doing a Bellew for the finale.
This will end the same way as Bruno v Tyson no2
For all the haters. This is the time we need to be supportive. Yes yes. AJ got caught short but remember so did GB. Let’s get behind AJ in the same way we saw him as fresh new prospect of GB boxing. Let’s re ignite the fire to make sure we are on guard once again. For next 5 months we should wish him well for the rematch as I’m sure he’s already done the analysis. Ruiz is reign will be short.
AJ, must be aware that he can't afford to mix it with a slugger, even one as ordinary as Ruiz. Can't take a head shot, brain stalls immediately, therefore, he needs to be guarded in the return and keep away from his opponent. He should win the rematch but best avoid the Gypsy King, who will take him apart. Wilder would destroy Joshua and his career would be over if that one ever comes to pass.
AJ supposedly been fighting 'punchbags and bums' when it's been said numerous times that there are no decent fighters in heavyweight, so who is he meant to fight?Windmill Wilder? who has even less boxing skill than AJ and just well. throws windmills hoping to connect.or Fury? who bores you to death with jab and run.. personally, in heavyweigh i like to see a brawl and not a snore fest
Can't see how AJ can stop leaving himself exposed when he commits. It just took someone with a bit of nous to see how easy it was to open him up. I can't see how that can change without him completely changing his fighting style, and really it is too late in his career for that to happen. I would love to say it was great whilst it lasted, but it never was in reality. Fighting punch-bags and bums.
199; I am ashamed.
@197 - Are you dumb? undefeated until last week, now career over at 29... BBC HYS is full of imbeciles
185-you are right but the analogy is wrong-a 100m sprinter would never win a 1500m race simply cos he has too many fast twitch muscle fibres in his or hers legs-the reverse is true of the 1500m runner-they have less fast twitch and more slow twitch. The 100m runner would rapidly gas in the 1500m trying to keep pace. The 1500m runner would never be able to generate the speed over 100m to win.
Problem for British fighters is same as their football teams. The business is so big in UK so you get domestic PPV where average boxers make millions before they are even fighting for WT. Soon as they step up a level they are found out. Both Joshua and Khan could have been legends but got too easy a journey. Look at the records of Mayweather, Pac-Man etc they have fought at much higher calibre.
If Joshua loses the rematch his boxing career is over, it's as simple as that
Watch out for another PPV fleecing. That’s the real con. Your hard earned money spent on those who can’t be bothered to earn theirs. Boxers, footballers - they’re all at. Lazy arses. It’s YOUR money!
Current heavyweight division is so weak... Imagine these guys up against Lennox Lewis. He would smash them all!
All this talk of a Frank Bruno mould.I loved Frank and his honesty but he wasn't a Olympic Boxer so please show some knowledge of boxing please.
AJ is a good sportsman in & outside the ring.I lost plenty on the fight as I thought like many he was a cert against this reserve fighter. He wouldn't be the 1st champion to lose and comeback stronger. My only concern is NO big puncher would be afraid of him. His defence is not good enough either.
AJ lost because he didnt want to be there. Boxing is not bodybuilding, you can tell AJ was more worried about his social media than the effect on his boxing career by losing to an overweight chump. Ruiz needs to go on a different route. AJ doesnt deserve a rematch.
