Eoin Rheinisch has joined Hannagh Craig in qualifying to represent Ireland at canoeing in the Olympic Games.

The canoeist booked his berth in London after finishing 12th at the European Canoe Slalom Championships on Saturday.

Craig, from Armoy, is to compete in the K1 racing kayak class after finishing 25th in the European Championships in Augsburg, Germany, on Friday.

That was the highest position occupied by a boat from a country not already qualified for London 2012.

Swiss competitor Elise Chabbey took the second place on offer by finishing 32nd in the K1 competition.

"I really love my sport and qualifying for the Olympics will give me the chance to raise the profile of what is a hugely exciting sport," said a delighted Craig.

"I am proud I was able to perform on the day, and want to perform in London, not just be there.

Craig, who formed her own cothing company to help fund her sport, added: "I am proud to be an Irish athlete and cannot wait for the Games."
