Glasgow urged not to 'fleece' fans

Hotel owners in the 2014 Commonwealth Games host city, Glasgow, are being urged not to "fleece" fans seeking accommodation.

With more than 90% of tickets for the 11-day event now sold, £100-per-night rooms are reportedly being offered for £800. Come July next year, many of Glasgow's 12,000 hotel rooms will be occupied, forcing a number of visitors to look elsewhere.

The BBC looked at 10 Glasgow hotels that showed availability and compared their prices during Games time against their prices outside of the event. In the random search, the average price increase on a daily rate for a standard double room was a massive 410%.
