Former South Africa international paceman Andre Nel has left Surrey by mutual consent.
The 33-year-old Kolpak player will leave the county with a year left on his contract, signed in 2009.
He claimed 76 wickets in all competitions during his time at the Oval but his stay was marred by injury.
"Whenever Andre was on the pitch we never received anything less than 100% from him," Surrey coach Chris Adams told the club's website.
"Sadly, those times were not as frequent as we all would have liked and the agreement that has been reached is beneficial to us all. He was a huge character both on and off the field and we wish him the very best for the future."
Nel, who was suspended for by the county for two matches and banned for two games by the England and Wales Cricket Board last season, has intimated he is keen to find a new club in England.
"I enjoyed my time at Surrey and whilst it's a shame to not be returning, I know I still have a lot to give and hope to return and terrorise some more county batsmen soon," he said.
