Middlesex take control of Derbyshire
|LV County Championship Division Two, Derby|
|Close, day one: Derbyshire 154 v Middlesex 115-1|
Middlesex closed only 39 adrift of Derbyshire after dominating day one of the Division Two clash at Derby.
Despite winning the toss and batting Derbyshire, who handed a debut to Australia Test batsman Usman Khawaja, were bowled out for only 154.
Gareth Berg (4-18) ripped through the middle order and Tim Murtagh took 3-36 as Ross Whiteley top scored with 28.
Chris Rogers then hit an unbeaten 66 against his old club as Middlesex closed on 115-1.
Berg's wickets came in a spell of 4-0 off 27 balls, and he would have celebrated a first five-wicket haul had Corey Collymore not spilled a simple catch at mid-off.
And a bad day for Derbyshire got worse when captain Luke Sutton injured a hand after tea while keeping wicket to Tony Palladino.
