Derbyshire duo hit back at Middlesex
LV County Championship Division Two, Derby
Close, day two: Derbyshire 154 & 193-3, Middlesex 230
Derbys 3pts, Middlesex 4pts
Tony Palladino and Wes Durston dragged Derbyshire back into contention with Middlesex on day two at Derby.
Replying to Derbyshire's 154 all out, Middlesex added only four to their overnight 115-1 when Chris Rogers (70) fell to Palladino.
That began a collapse that saw the visitors lost their last nine wickets for 111 to be all out for 230.
Durston (96) and Usman Khawaja (45) wiped out the hosts' deficit, Derbyshire closing on 193-3, 117 ahead.
After Rogers edged Palladino to wicketkeeper Tom Poynton, Dawid Malan and Neil Dexter then fell cheaply.
Dan Housego (48) moved Middlesex into the lead but, when John Simpson was caught at second slip off Greg Smith, it sparked another clatter of wickets.
Derbyshire opener Wayne Madsen was run out to a direct hit from gully before Durston and Khawaja added 147 for the second wicket.
Durston fell lbw to Tim Murtagh and Australian Khawaja was caught at second slip off Gareth Berg, leaving Chesney Hughes and Dan Redfern to see the hosts to stumps.
