Glamorgan captain Alviro Petersen compiled a career-best century to help his side dominate the opening day of their match with Surrey at The Oval.
South Africa opener Petersen batted all day to reach the close unbeaten on 178, including a six and 21 fours.
He also shared 225 for the third wicket with Mike Powell, who was bowled by Chris Jordan one short of his own ton.
Jade Dernbach (2-103) then removed Ben Wright for a 23-ball duck but Glamorgan closed in command on 352-4.
Petsersen's partnership with Powell was a new Glamorgan record for the third wicket against Surrey, beating the 171 Powell had shared with David Hemp at the same ground in 2005.
