LV County Championship Division One, Arundel
Warwickshire 481 & 72-2 beat Sussex 251 & 301 by eight wickets
Warwicks 23pts, Sussex 4pts
Jeetan Patel completed his first five-wicket haul for Warwickshire as they beat Sussex by eight wickets.
Resuming on 201-5, Luke Wright (116) and Ollie Rayner (58) continued to frustrate the Bears, taking their partnership to 163.
Jim Troughton caught Wright off Patel (5-96) and with Rana Naved-ul-Hasan unable to bat Sussex ended on 301.
Varun Chopra hit two sixes in a quickfire 24 as Warwickshire reached a winning target of 72-2.
With Wright and Rayner adding 87 to their overnight stand Sussex may have harboured hopes of saving the game.
But Patel shattered that illusion, first removing Wright who believed the catch to Troughton was a bump ball.
Rayner went four overs later, trapped lbw by Patel, and with him disappeared any chance Sussex had of setting the Bears a competitive target.
Amjad Khan and Monty Panesar were both quickly removed by Boyd Rankin (4-60) leaving the Bears eyeing a comfortable victory.
Chopra's entertaining cameo was brought to an end when he was bowled by Rayner and Panesar then trapped William Porterfield lbw.
But Darren Maddly and Jim Troughton guided the Bears to victory 44 minutes after lunch.
POST MATCH REACTION
Jeetan Patel told BBC Coventry & Warwickshire:
"To be able to play in my first game back for the Bears in the whites is exciting and to be able to contribute and take five wickets to win the game is nice.
"I think there's been some good additions. The guys are a great bunch of guys and they all seem to be working harder on their games than last time, and they're two years older.
"I think the last few games have been really good for us and we've got to lead that form into the Twenty20 next week."
