Dorset coach Sean Walbridge sees his side's failure to beat Herefordshire on Monday as a big setback in their bid to retain their Minor Counties title.
Walbridge's side lost by eight wickets and now sit third in the Western Division, 11 points below leaders Berkshire with just three matches left.
"It's a big setback, it's going to be very difficult for us to retain the title," he told BBC Radio Solent.
"We're upset, we didn't play well and we aim now to win the last few games."
Dorset, who won the Minor Counties title last September, face Oxfordshire on 24 July and Walbridge has demanded a marked improvement on his side's performance against Herefordshire.
"We are frustrated with being beaten but we're looking for a much-improved performance from everybody when we play Oxfordshire.
"We've got to stay positive and we'll look to bounce back and come out fighting."
