Leicestershire head coach Phil Whitticase is confident Harry Gurney's hamstring injury will not keep him out of next month's FL t20 quarter-final.

The seam bowler was hurt during the 254-run defeat against Essex in the County Championship on Wednesday.

Whitticase told BBC Radio Leicester: "We're keen to get him fit for the quarter-final in three-and-a-half weeks and feel we have time to get him fit."

But the Foxes are likely to be without veteran seamer Matthew Hoggard.

Leicestershire skipper Hoggard damaged his wrist hitting a punch ball in training before the FL t20 win over Northamptonshire on 3 July and was ruled out for six weeks.

The quarter-finals take place on 6, 7 or 8 August.
