Gloucestershire's Dent and Payne get England nod

Gloucestershire duo Chris Dent and David Payne have been named in an England Development XI to face Sri Lanka A at Old Trafford in August.

Opening batsman Dent and left-arm seamer Payne, both 20, have previously represented England at Under-19 level.

"It's good to know you're still in the loop and they're still keeping an eye on you from the Under-19s," Payne told BBC Gloucestershire.

"Hopefully it all goes well and we'll see what happens."

The England squad replace Lancashire for the one-day game after the Division One side were forced to pull out because of their FL t20 quarter-final commitments.

Dent scored 900 Championship runs last season and after being sidelined with a broken finger this term, returned to make his maiden century against Surrey last week.

Payne has played nine out of 11 Championship games this season and taken 23 wickets in total.

Payne continued: "When we played Sri Lanka last time [on tour with Under-19s] it was an all-round good tour which we ended up drawing in all formats. It is unpredictable when you play against them.

"You might stuff them one time but then they will come back and stuff you.

"I'm not sure what their A side will be like but hopefully we will give them a good game."
