Gloucestershire bowler David Payne says Ian Cockbain deserves a place in the team for the Division Two match against Derbyshire, which starts on Wednesday.
Cockbain has scored 79, 48, 51 and 59 in his last four one-day innings.
Gloucestershire have named a squad of 12 including Cockbain and James Fuller, but the final choice will depend on whether they play an extra batsman.
"He's in unbelievable form - it would be perfect if it transferred into this game," Payne told BBC Gloucestershire.
"It looks like it's going to be a tough one at Derby, it doesn't look like it's going to be a great batter's pitch.
"We need someone who's going to do a job for us, it may be one big score that could play a crucial part in this game."
Payne himself is relishing facing Derbyshire again, after his impressive figures on the opening day of the season in April.
On his first-class debut Payne took 5-76 and hit 46 with the bat to help the side to a seven-wicket victory.
Gloucestershire are now pushing for promotion in Division Two and currently sit third behind Northants and Middlesex.
"It was a good game for me," added Payne. "I'm looking forward to it again - we've got to keep winning and keep our hopes for promotion alive."
